Titles Don’t Matter
People love asking, “What do you do?” The truth is, most titles don’t mean much. For decades, I’ve struggled to answer that question in a way that makes sense to anyone. Am I a filmmaker? A producer? A designer? A creative director? It’s always been funny how, in 1990, telling people I wanted to direct music videos got me blank stares, and in 2024, telling people I’m a filmmaker is met with a similar shrug—because everyone has a camera these days.
Here’s the real takeaway: it doesn’t matter what you call yourself. Titles are flimsy. What matters is the work. What matters is doing. Don’t be precious about how you define yourself. Be defined by what you accomplish, not by the labels people put on you.
